Contest

So a few posts back I said I may have to think of something to get some of you to come out of hiding here on my blog. I think I have come up with an idea. . . . So to help you all come out, and LEARN to post, I am hosting a contest. If you post with a book you have read this summer and a review of it you will be entered in to win a gift card to Borders for $15.00. I will give you all one week. The contest will end Friday the 22nd at 8:00 am PT. Then I will randomly, or random.org will, a winner on that same Friday.

You may tell your friends to enter as well. I always love hearing what others are reading and love the idea of helping someone buy their next book. Have fun and GOOD LUCK!

I'll start off. This summer I got my hands on a gem of a book, "Dog Breath, The Horrible Trouble With Hally Tosis" by Dav Pilkey. What a quick, easy ready. And the funny pictures kept the story moving.

(Sorry I haven't read much for myself this summer....see I need that gift certificate!)

Also thanks for the fun posts and letting me keep up on your cute red headed family.

Zee,
Fun idea! Here are a couple of reviews of books I've read this summer.
The first was a great allegory/novel written by some friends of ours. The book is called "Hunter Brown and the Secret of the Shadow." It was fun read (they are imaginative guys who tell a great story) and it really encouraged you to think about your salvation and God's sovereignty over it. You can read my review here.
The second book was a bit more serious as it dealt with how we center our marriages on the Gospel. It is called "When Sinners Say I Do" and really clarified my approach to marriage and all of my actions as a Christian. It is an excellent book! My full review is here on my blog.
Thanks again for the contest, and you succeeded in spurring this reader into the action.

Yay! Good idea! I have actually managed to read a few this summer, but I'd love that gift card! We're turning our cable off so I need some more books to read!
I am almost done with an excellent book called, "Safe In The Arms Of God" by John MacArthur about the children and babies and if they go to Heaven or not and what it is like for them. It has been so healing for me! I highly recomend it to anyone who has had a miscarriage or lost a child in any other way.
I agree with Ryan's review of Hunter Brown too!
"Shopping for Time" by the Mahaneys is also a good one on time organization, etc. I also read a good fictional one about Amish life by Cynthia Woodsmall (actually two by her). I could go on and on. . . :)

Ok, I feel a little guilty posting this after the uplifting Christian suggestions that others have left but...

There is a fabulous vampire series by Stephenie Meyer called the Twilight series. The books are Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn. The best part is that they're all out so you won't get caught up and then have to wait for the next one.

I hope you know that these sound weird and sci-fi but they're really entertaining, very clean and the characters are fascinating. I thoroughly, as in at times read 500 pages in 24 hours, enjoyed them.

Maybe I should write a blog about them!

Also I would like to point out that I am not in hiding and regularly leave comments on your blog. And also that I like you and think you're really pretty. And a good cook. And a wonderful friend. Pick me! Pick me!

I have not really read any adult books this summer...I have been catching up on reads for my class of 4th graders. I read a great book called the Grimm Sister Detectives. Its number one in a series and it was fabulous. If you like fairy tales then you will love how the author intermingles all of the great tales we heard as kids. These two sisters have lost their parents and are sent to live with their grandmother in Ferryport. All of the fairytale characters have been stuck in this place because the Grimm Brothers put them there. They are stuck until all of the Grimms are dead. So anyway... the sisters get wrapped up in mystery they have to solve with giants, magic mirrors, and of course Prince Charming...but he's not as charming as you may think!
Love you all!

So I don't want to leave without leaving a comment...but I have to think about this. I have a problem with reading and dumping. Meaning I read and then totally forget about the details.

I am in the middle of reading Anne of Green Gabels. But haven't finished.

I will think of one! I still have time, right?

Not sure this will count but its a book and I'm reading during the summer sooooo....
I'm really into Psychology Core Concepts. It may be a required reading for my class, but I do find what I've read so far interesting. Did I tell you about "habituation"? I'm pretty sure I did. So you can see that I'm learning quite a bit. Hopefully your contest isn't limited to fiction only. ;o)

Just wondering if any one has read "The Shack"??

Heard it is awesome

I have read The Shack, too, but not sure I would recommend it. I read Flabbergasted, A Delirious Summer, and Lost in Rooville by Ray Blackston. Three books that made me laugh, think, and a great story of people growing in faith and trusting in God.

Of all the books I have read this summer, I think my favorite is one called "Better." It's really interesting, and examines how much impact we can have just by trying to rise above "average."

Easy read; very inspiring.

Let's see I've been hooked on Dee Henderson's series "The O'Malley Family." I've read; "The Negotiator", "The Guardian", "The Truth Seeker", "The Protector", & "The Healer". It has been a great series!

I must admit that I am not (yet?) a reader of your blog, but followed the link on Karen's blog.

I am expecting my second child in November and I'm eagarly seeking a VBAC. I'm now on my 5th birth book (three on VBACS, two on natural birth). (If anyone reading about this is interested in following my experience with a c-section and my road to a VBAC, I'll start posting about it soon.) Now...which one to write about??

Gentle Birth Choices by Barbara Harper. This book is all about (guess what?) having a gentle birth. Avoiding high tech intrusive systematic proceedures in favor of a more natural birth which has so many plusses for the momma and the baby.

(Please note that I am NOT anti technology, anti hospital, anti obstetrician, anti pain meds, or anti life saving interventions!! But I AM pro education...do your research and know what you're getting yourself into (both short term and long terms pros and cons!)

I would recommend this book to all pregnant women (regardless of the type of birth you want...and expecially if you don't know what type of birth you want!)

Oh, and the photographs are amazing!
